Women’s stories
“You helped me get my foundation back!”
After the birth of her second child, Rose, 39, was feeling like a stranger in her own body. She was gaining weight, losing her patience, and hadn’t had a period in months. Her first child has autism, and between his needs and those of the now-2-year-old, she was feeling a tremendous amount of stress at home. She was thrilled to find Women to Women, not only for the positive messages we’re trying to get out about women, but for the foundational support we are able to provide her.
“I have two children: a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old with autism. You can imagine we have a lot of stress in our house. When I stopped nursing my younger one, I gained a lot of weight. I was craving sweets and carbohydrates. I was depressed. And even going to the gym and doing everything right weren’t helping me to get the weight off or feel better. To top it off, I wasn’t getting my period either. I’ve always had irregular periods and trouble with my hormones, so this wasn’t a huge surprise.
“I was talking to a friend of mine and telling her, ‘This isn’t my body. I just don’t feel right.’ She and so many of my other friends have resigned themselves to the myth that these things just happen when we get closer to 40 and there’s nothing you can do about it, like you’ll get to a certain age and gain weight or you’ll want to stop having sex. As women, we have to get past these myths. They just aren’t true! And Women to Women’s website was the first I’d seen to really get this message out. We don’t have to feel this way.
“I’ve never been the kind of person who dreads wrinkles or gray hair. I like my little laugh lines, but I wanted my energy back. Each time I typed in one of my symptoms on the internet, your website came up and I thought, all the signs are pointing in this direction. I better give it a chance. After one month on your Personal Program, I noticed a difference. I got my first period in a very long time and felt overall in balance. My patience with my kids has improved infinitely. I’m less cranky and irritable. I don’t crave the carbs or sugar like I did and I’ve lost five pounds without even trying!
“My body was hungry for the right stuff, and I didn’t know what to give it. My son is on a special combination of nutrients for autism, which is really helping, and I knew there must be some combination for me as well. I found it in your Essential Nutrients. But it is never just one thing. We are working with a biomedical doctor for my son, and I’ve realized that getting his nutritional foundation in line helps all the other interventions we’ve been working on. It’s the same for us. We need a foundation first, and then we can work on the other things in our lives.
“Sure, sometimes I feel blue. With kids in the house and life in general, there’s always something. But now my body has the essentials. My coping strategies are working again. In the beginning, when my son was first diagnosed with autism and we would have a bad day, I’d stop everything and say, ‘Alright. Let’s have a do-over.’ You know when you’re a kid and playing a game and you get a do-over? Well, I was queen of the do-over and of bouncing back. You helped me get my foundation back. Now I can be queen of the do-over again!”
