Women’s stories
“Twenty years of HRT was enough!”
Tracey had endometriosis as a young woman and a total hysterectomy when she was
just 29. After 20 years on HRT, she suffered problems with her pelvic muscles and
had to endure major reconstructive surgery, which can take a long time to heal.
She felt awful. “Twenty years of HRT was enough!,” she told us. Even
with the supplemental estrogen, Terri suffered from discomfort, fatigue, and constipation,
and was concerned about the risks of estrogen therapy.
That’s when Tracey found the Personal Program; she chose the “Getting
off HRT” plan. In her first Nurse–Educator call, we discussed immediate
measures to help her digestive system heal and how to keep constipation at bay.
This was crucial in order for Tracey’s system to absorb the nutrients and
benefit from her new eating plan. It would also help her progress in pelvic physical
therapy, which was ongoing.
Tracey worked diligently on all the steps of her Program, added extra magnesium
and Acidophilus for her bowels, and even soy isoflavones as she gradually
reduced use of the estrogen therapy.
After 3–½ months, Tracey called to say, “I’m feeling great!”
She is off her estrogen completely. She’s following the eating plan and reaping
the benefits of a healthy digestive tract — no more constipation!
Overall, Tracey is very pleased with her progress. We discussed her long-term daily
calcium goals to be sure she gets what her body needs as time passes. She’s
grateful that we are here to talk to any time she needs support, and we know she’s
going to feel better and better as time passes.
