Women’s stories

“I was headed straight for divorce.”

At 33, Catherine really started to feel herself changing. She began to suffer hot flashes, night sweats, and sleepless nights that steadily increased in severity with each year. By age 38 she was really discouraged: her waist and weight had ballooned, she felt dull and foggy, and she had no desire for sex with her wonderful husband.

Catherine was especially bewildered by the intense mood swings that sent her into a tail spin — crying and overreacting — growing more and more irrational as she faced each daily challenge. “My teenage boys and husband couldn’t stand being around me — I was headed straight for divorce. I really thought I was losing my mind!”

Her doctors repeatedly told her that her hormone tests were normal. They prescribed antidepressants, which just made her sleep all day. She felt trapped. “Then one day I realized that if the medical establishment wasn’t able to listen to me or help me that it was time to look for answers in other places.”

Catherine’s mom had been telling her that her symptoms were hormonal and sounded a lot like perimenopause. So Catherine decided to start there. She searched the internet and found our website. “I realized I was busy taking care of everyone else except myself!”

The Personal Program approach made a lot of sense to Catherine, so she thought she’d try it. “After all, what did I have to lose?”

After just three days, Catherine began feeling a difference. “Then in two weeks I felt a major difference!” Now in her third month on the Program, almost all of Catherine’s symptoms have disappeared. Even Catherine’s friends have noticed how well she is, her calm demeanor, and the return of her coping skills. Her anxiety and insomnia are gone, her memory is back and she is enjoying her outside interests again. Catherine reports her energy has returned to the degree that she actually feels like resuming her exercise routine.

Catherine has begun to lose weight and is hopeful that trend will continue. She’s still working on rekindling her sexual desire, but remains patient that her body will come around in that department too.

Admittedly, Catherine found that the dietary changes in the Program were not easy. But she tries to take it slow, making changes at the right pace-that is, one at a time. “The first month was the hardest. I had some cravings and missed my diet cola.” Her progress has inspired her, though, so she’s stuck with it and now she feels great: “I have my waist back again!”

Catherine’s chiropractor was so impressed with the Personal Program and Catherine’s results that he’s taken the information to share with others. Catherine has her whole family working on making good dietary choices and they are all thriving — one of her sons even needs less of his ADD medications now. Catherine is proud to declare: “Thanks to the Personal Program, I have my brain back again and I’m a whole new woman — and a lifetime member!”

"I was four years in the desert, honeybun."

Rhonda was "alone in the desert" of menopause as she bore the responsibilities of both an only child and a single parent. Caring for her mom through a terminal illness, then cushioning the blow for her father in his ensuing grief and illness - all the while maintaining stability with her own only daughter, who has a bipolar disorder - had led Rhonda down a path of loneliness and despair.
