Women’s stories
“I was a participant in the WHI study on the risks of HRT.”
Judy had her menopause at 54 and was put on Prempro by her doctor. She was also
invited to join the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) long-term study of the
health risks of hormone replacement therapy HRT).
She stayed in the study, and on her HRT, for five years. When the study was halted
abruptly because of the obvious risks to the participants, Judy stopped HRT over
a three-month weaning period under her doctor’s supervision.
Despite weaning off her HRT as directed, Judy soon developed symptoms of hormonal
imbalance. Her major problem was insomnia at night and hot flashes during the day.
After six months the combination of the two was beginning to wear her down.
Judy tried various alternative remedies, but nothing worked. In her search for other
options she found out about the Personal Program. She was skeptical but felt she
had to try something.
When we first spoke to Judy, about a month after starting her Program, she reported
immediate improvement. She had already begun to sleep through the night —
a most welcome change.
We followed up with Judy a little over five months into her Program. She reports
she’s feeling just the way she wanted to. She continues to sleep well, reversing
her long-term pattern. We asked about her hot flashes, and Judy said she never has
them anymore. In fact, her family teases her, because now she complains about feeling
cold rather than hot all the time. Interestingly, Judy also said she’s noticed
a return of her youthful libido. It wasn’t something she realized was missing
— but she’s glad to have it back.
