Real stories from real women about bone health

“I have been a thin woman my entire life!”

Tracy, 74, had always been a thin woman. After some unexplained weight loss, she went to her doctor and was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and osteoporosis. Her doctor’s solution was a low dose steroid and a bone drug. After a painful intestinal reaction, Tracy decided she wanted to take a more natural approach. She had been receiving the Women to Women newsletter for years and decided to check out the bone health information. She really liked what she read and decided to take on this healthy approach to bone health and joined the Personal Program for Better Bones.

“I am a thin woman and have dealt with this ‘problem’ my entire life. When I was little, people were always saying how sick my brother and I looked, and they would tell my mother that she should take us to the doctor because we were so skinny. She would take us to the doctor and finally he told her ‘there is nothing wrong with those kids, they’re just naturally thin.’

“Since my bones have always been thin, when I started to lose weight it just seemed logical to assume that it was normal and that my bones were fine. But I was still losing weight and I didn’t know what was going on! I went to see my doctor, and I was diagnosed with osteopenia and polymyalgia rheumatica. My doctor put me on a low dose steroid for the polymyalgia and a bone drug for the osteoporosis. After a year or so I had a painful intestinal reaction to the bone drug and my doctor told me to stop taking it. The doctor then prescribed another bone drug that I didn’t want to take because of the frightening things I read about bisphosphonates.

“I was getting the newsletters from Women to Women at that time. I started checking the website out about the Bone Health Program. I purchased Dr. Brown’s book Better Bones, Better Body, and I was amazed! I didn’t really know anything about the natural process of how bone is generated until I read Dr. Brown’s book. All of the things she had to say made me wish I had gotten this book sooner. I had no idea about diet and all the medications and their effects on bone health. I contacted Women to Women and purchased the Bone Health Program.

“I started taking the Better Bones Builder twice a day. I read the New Member Guide that came with the program. The guide talked about the alkaline diet. I was really amazed about that. I started changing my diet making sure to throw in more complex carbs so I would start to gain more weight. I also joined the Y. I go three times a week and use the weight bearing machines and the treadmill for cardio.

“I feel better knowing that I am eating a healthy diet for my bones. I used to have to jump out of bed all the time at night with leg cramps, and I don’t do that anymore. I have more energy than I did. I followed the path that’s outlined in the book and the guide, I saw improvement, and I feel great!”
