Hysterectomy & alternatives
FAQ’s on hysterectomy, partial hysterectomy, and hormones
I had a hysterectomy a number of years ago and have been on HRT ever since. But
every time I try to kick the hormone habit I have severe rebound
symptoms and have to resume it. How can I stop HRT?
Millions of women post-hysterectomy now want to get off their HRT. Unfortunately,
they are often told they have no good alternative. To learn how to stop your HRT
naturally, read our article on what to expect
when you’re getting off HRT.
You may have been told to expect a “second menopause.” It’s true
that if you stop HRT suddenly and without adequate support, you will experience
anew the symptoms of hormonal imbalance. But it isn’t truly a second menopause;
rather it is withdrawal from the synthetic hormones to which your body has become
accustomed.
If you are on Premarin, you’re under 45, and have had your ovaries removed,
read our article on bioidentical hormones to understand
how to switch to bioidentical hormones.
