Ask Emily — thyroid health

QUESTION:

At what age should I get my thyroid checked?

ANSWER:

We recommend having your thyroid checked starting at around age 30 for a baseline reading and then every five years after that to follow up. However, if you have a family history of thyroid conditions, you should get tested at age 20. Finding out about a thyroid disorder earlier rather than later is always preferable. This way you can learn about ways to change your life and heal your thyroid, rather than take a prescription medication.
