Ask Emily — thyroid health
QUESTION:
Can my thyroid condition be cured?
ANSWER:
Perhaps! But you might not hear this from your doctor. Conventional medicine tends
to view the thyroid in isolation from the rest of the body and focuses on medication,
surgery, and/or radiation to treat it. There are several conditions that permanently
affect the thyroid, such as Graves’ disease. But depending on the cause of your
thyroid condition, it may be possible
to use a naturopathic approach to restore and maintain healthy thyroid functioning.
This is most likely to be the case when you have a subclinical thyroid condition,
or when a nutritional deficiency or another form of hormonal imbalance such as adrenal
dysfunction, is impairing your thyroid function. Restoring the imbalance often restores
the thyroid.
