Ask Emily — menopause

QUESTION:

Are herbal alternatives safe to use for menopausal symptoms?

ANSWER:

Herbal treatments have been used for menopausal symptoms for hundreds of years. However, unlike FDA approved drugs, herbal treatments draw little interest from big pharmaceutical companies and haven’t been studied as widely as drugs that can be patented. From our own clinical experience, we have seen great results in women who use herbal supplements. Using a menopausal treatment that is closer to nature can cut down on side effects. And, in fact, more and more research is being done to support the use of herbal treatments for menopause. It’s always important to understand that each woman is unique and should be evaluated based on her personal health history before any treatment is implemented.
