Ask Emily — bone health

QUESTION:

What is the difference between osteoporosis and osteopenia?

ANSWER:

Osteoporosis is diagnosed when your bone mineral density (BMD) is 2.5 points below the standard, which is defined by a large sample of 20 to 29-year-olds. Osteopenia is diagnosed when BMD is lower than standard, but not low enough to be considered osteoporosis. A diagnosis of osteopenia can put you in a higher risk category for developing osteoporosis.

"No control - no relief!"

Lucinda recently chatted with one of our Nurse–Educators about the changes she has experienced since joining the Personal Program. Now 36, Lucinda had suffered from break-through bleeding and prolonged irregular periods for weeks at a time. These problems continued unabated for years - ever since her son was born, despite having a hysteroscopy, D&C, and trying 16 different types of birth control pills. As Lucinda puts it, she still had "no control - no relief!"
