Ask Emily — adrenal fatigue

QUESTION:

Is a DHEA supplement safe to use for adrenal fatigue?

ANSWER:

Yes, if used correctly under the care of a knowledgeable practitioner, DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) supplementation can be extremely helpful for extreme cases of adrenal fatigue. It’s important to keep in mind that it cannot fix adrenal fatigue by itself. When DHEA is used with nutritional and hormonal support, lifestyle changes and adequate rest, we’ve seen great results. DHEA is a potent steroid and is now being sold over the counter in very high doses and marketed as the cure for muscle loss, weight gain, depression, and low libido, to name a few. It is not the “miracle drug” advertisers claim and we don’t recommend experimenting with this hormone with out the help of your practitioner.
